Winter in Wyoming

As many of you know I hibernated Doeville last winter. Somehow and some way all of my stars lined up for an opportunity to spend 6 months in Ten Sleep, Wyoming . I jumped on it with both feet, a camera and my wonderful Doeville journal. I stayed in the home of an incredible couple, Bob and Gayle, while they went to Idaho to visit and take care of his mother. Before leaving Florida, My husband and I loaded up my Prairie Schooner (cargo trailer) filled with items to homestead West! Just exactly what does a girl take West? Well...my sewing machines, fabrics, computer, furry blankets, flannel pj's, and of course...my Dog Jackson! As we traveled across country my adventure began to unfold! The aroma of home filled the air as we passed through my hometown of Chattanooga, TN .Then we rolled through the green hills of Kentucky, then the arch in St.Louis, and a super treat was Cabela's headquarters in Sydney, Nebraska . Several days later we started seeing those absolutely awesome mountains of the West!
As soon as we arrived and got the schooner unpacked... big delicious, beautiful, soft snowflakes fell on my eyelashes! The PURE silence around us was so amazing tucked in the mountains all around us. The next day we rose to a soft, powdery snow which laid like a blanket across the landscape. For me, snow is so authentic and soothing...it is one of my most favorite things! Jackson and I enjoyed so many days of playing, hiking and learning to snowshoe...thank you precious Jeannie! Be sure to push "read more" below for more pics.
The wildlife which came to visit was amazing! Several days we had a herd of bull elk come roaming into the yard! There was not a one smaller than a 5 x 5! My heart would race, sweat would roll down my back as I race from window to window snapping pictures of these majestic animals. My husband told me that I was very lucky to see something like this! Here is just one of the elk I enjoyed.
Oh and by the way, did I mention there were mule deer almost every day which came to visit! AND turkey, bald eagles, rabbits, coyotes, and a bevy of beautiful birds! I took over 1,000 pictures during my stay!
My Mom and Dad came to visit me for several weeks. My Dad and husband went trout fishing and my Dad caught the biggest brown and biggest rainbow trout of his lifetime! I ain't never seem him so tickled rainbow!
I met so many beautiful and REAL people! I was blessed with many friendships that will last a lifetime! I also learned to knit from taking classes at Lucy's Sheep Camp in Thermopolis, Wyoming. I also met my Sage Sisters in Thermopolis which have touched my life beyond measure!
Thank you so sincerely to all the people who made this "Once in a Lifetime" experience a reality for me! I will blog about my sojourn West more in the future!
Most of all I want to thank my loving husband for knowing how much I love the mountains and Wyoming! He knows that my heart, soul and creativity flourish in these majestic surroundings!
Happy Trails,
Kim Pezzeminti

... Sounds like my cup of tea...or espresso in my case. I have traveled all over the US and parts of Canada hauling horses commercially when our daughter was first born until the age of 4. I have never lived anywhere but here in Central Oregon but of all the 48 States that we traveled, the West is by far my favorite. Northern Wyoming and parts of Montana, Colorado and Northern Idaho. I find that I love the places that are filled with majestic wildlife, snow covered mountains and trees. A photographers dream and little piece of heaven. That adventure will be in my next book. |
